Release your faith

“As long as the earth remains,” Genesis 8:22, “As long as the earth remains, there will be seedtime and harvesttime.”  He said, “There will be hot.  There will be cold.  There will be summer.  There will be winter.  There will be day.  There will be night, and there will be seedtime and harvest.”

People talk about the weather, and nobody changes the weather.  Somebody says, “Well, I’ve decided it’s not going to be hot this summer.  I’ve decided we’re not going to have a cold winter.”  No, it’s not scriptural.  The Bible says you’re going to have hot and you’re going to have cold.  You’re going to have day, you’re going to have night.

“Well, I’ve decided we’re going to extend daylight hours by six hours.”  Well, the government extends it by one hour with Daylight Savings Time.  Or we’re going to have shorter days or longer days.  No, He said we’re going to have day and we’re going to have night.  We’re going to have hot, we’re going to have cold.  We’re going to have summer, we’re going to have winter.  And we’re going to have seedtime and we’re going to have harvesttime.  Now the question is, are we as Christians going to believe it?

Jesus said, “What you give, what you sow, will be multiplied back to you.”  And He said He will multiply it back to some thirty times, to some sixty times, to some a hundred times.  And then in Deuteronomy He said, “I’ll make you a thousand times more.”

It is not a get-rich-quick scheme.  It is a Bible principle that works.  But it only works when you follow the principles.  It only works when you sow unto the Lord, release your faith and expect God to use it for His glory and then multiply it back and get into expectation.

The hardest thing for me when I plant my seed—and several of you said it—the hardest thing for me is to expect that between the time I sow it and the time the answer comes that I can survive, that I can make it.

Some segment of the Bible

And Abraham established the tithing principle, that you sow unto the Lord and you believe that He will use it for His glory and multiply it back to you.  Now this is the principle that is followed throughout the entire Bible.  This is not just in some segment of the Bible.  This goes from Genesis all the way to the book of Revelation.

Now cross over to Jesus, who talked about the principles of sowing and reaping.  In Mark 4 He said, “How shall we liken or compare the kingdom of God?  It is like a seed,” and Jesus himself was referred to as a seed, the seed of the woman, the seed of Abraham, the seed of David.  “How shall we liken or compare the kingdom of God?  It’s like a little seed,” a mustard seed.  And if you ever held a mustard seed in your hand, they’re very small, “it’s less than all or smaller than all the seeds that are in the earth.  But when it is sown”—never disbelieve the power of a seed.  When you sow it, something begins to happen.

Scientists today still, with all the technology and all the scientific information that we have in the world today, scientists cannot explain how a seed goes into the ground and literally dies and springs forth to life.  There is power in a seed.

Sometime ago I read an article in a journal where they had found a seed that was 1,500 years old.  It had never been planted.  And they put it in the ground and planted it, poured water on it, and it grew.

You cannot stop the power of a seed.  It’s impossible.  And the reason is because God has set up a backwards kingdom.  Somebody write that down, a backwards kingdom.  What do you mean by that?  Well, the world says, “What goes up must come down.”  God said, “What goes down,” that is, what you sow, “must come up.”  It is an eternal principle.

Evangelism

I have a doctorate, an earned doctorate.  It took me three years to get it.  You know, I went through my BA program, then I had a two year’s master’s program, master of arts in theology, and then a three-year doctorate of ministry.  So I have an earned doctorate.

But a doctor of ministry is what’s called a professional degree.  It is not the teaching degree.  I could not go to a seminary, an accredited seminary, and get a job as a professor, even though I certainly have the ability.  No question that I have the ability.  But according to the accreditation associations, you have to have a PhD, which is a different degree.  It’s a four-year degree.  It’s not a three-year degree.  And it has a different emphasis, and it particularly emphasizes Greek and Hebrew.  Okay?

So we don’t offer a PhD, so if we’re going to send missionaries into that world to teach in those many godless seminaries, then we’re going to have to have a PhD program and raise them up.  We have to go where people are.  Okay?  That’s why you hear me say in chapel all the time, “Jesus said go into all the world.”  Well, in order to do that, you have to go into every person’s world.  Okay?

That’s why I said yesterday I have a dream of having a film major, you know.  I’m sure you guys have heard about it, maybe some of you haven’t.  There’s a film that’s going to be premiered this weekend on Discovery in which they’re going to claim that they have evidence that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married and they had a son named Judah.  And Hollywood has done it.

Well, are we going to allow Hollywood to make all the films?  Instead of getting mad at Hollywood, you know, for this garbage which they’re going to put on television—there’s been articles all over the country.  There was a big front-page article in the Tulsa World the other day about it.  It was in USA Today over the weekend.  I saw it.  Instead of cursing the darkness, let’s light a candle.  Let’s have a film major and teach students how to make films on a high-class level.

And let’s strike a blow for deliverance that way.  Let’s don’t just sit around and yell and scream at Hollywood, say, “Why doesn’t somebody do something?”  Why don’t we do something?  All right.  That’s too much time on that.

The word threshold

And He told me that I was to go to battle against it before I get there.  And so I started doing that yesterday when I got this prophetic word.

But then He showed me that there’s another demonic spirit that is a personal thing coming against me, and it is a spirit of containment.  And He showed me a picture of me standing at a threshold about to have a major breakthrough, but that there was a spirit of containment trying to keep me from going across that threshold into that open door.

And He showed me a picture of me standing in a—He gave me the word vestibule.  You ever heard the word vestibule?  That I was standing in the vestibule.  I was in the outer office.

You know how you go into offices, and there is an outer area, a waiting area?  Well, in Old English terms, they used to call that the vestibule.  They don’t call it the vestibule anymore, sounds like something you’d get in the vegetable section of Wal-Mart, you know.

But the outer area, the outer office, the waiting room, whatever you call it, in Old English was called the vestibule.  And God showed me a picture of me in the vestibule, standing at the threshold.

Well, now you need to understand, I’m a student of trivia.  Any of you like trivia?  There’s a website called useless information.com.  And you don’t want to take me on in Trivial Pursuit, okay?  Just don’t do that, because I’m a master in Trivial Pursuit because I love trivia.

And the word threshold is an Old English word.  In the old days, back in the 14th or 15th century in England, the people built dirt or stone floors in their homes.  The poor had dirt floors, the wealthy had stone floors.

His conception and His birth

Now the real bell-ringer scripture in the Old Testament, which is also quoted in the New Testament, is Joel, chapter 2, verses 28-32.  And this particular scripture is still happening right in our midst today.  Peter quoted it in Acts.

Joel 2:28-32, “I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions;

“And also upon the servants and the handmaidens in those days will I pour out my spirit.

“And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be delivered.”

Notice that it says the Spirit will be poured out upon all flesh.  Everyone, every person alive will have an opportunity to receive the pouring out of the Holy Spirit.  Some may reject it, but everyone will have an opportunity.  Everyone will hear.  Everyone will have an opportunity.  That’s what this scripture is all about.

Now let’s deal in the New Testament, and let’s particularly focus in on the Holy Spirit in the life of Jesus, His earthly life, that is.  First of all, let’s talk about His birth, His conception and His birth.

Matthew 1, verses 20 and 21.  “Behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto Joseph in a dream, saying, Thou son of David, fear not to take Mary as your wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

“And she shall bring forth a son, and you shall call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”

Now you will recall, I’m sure, that it was an angel that came to Mary and announced to her that she was pregnant and told her that she was going to give birth to the Savior of the world.

The Spirit of God

Then dealing with Saul, the first king of Israel, in 1 Samuel, chapter 10, verse 10, 1 Samuel 10:10, “When they arrived at Gibeah, a procession of prophets met him.  The Spirit of God,” the Holy Spirit, “came upon Saul in power, and he joined in their prophesying.”

It’s amazing, Saul was trying to hunt David down and kill him.  But when the procession of prophets came by, the Spirit of God came upon him.

David is another example in 1 Samuel, chapter 16, verse 13.  This is 1 Samuel 16:13, “So Samuel”—Samuel was the prophet—“took the horn of oil and anointed David in the presence of his brothers.  And from that day on, the Spirit of the Lord,” the Holy Spirit, “came upon David in power.”

And then one more example like this of people particularly is in 1 Samuel 19:20, 1 Samuel 19:20, “So he,” Saul, this is King Saul, “sent men out to capture David.  But when they saw a group of prophets prophesying with Samuel standing there as their leader, the Spirit of the Lord came upon Saul’s men, and they also prophesied.”

These are examples of how the Holy Spirit came and went, came upon men in Old Testament days at certain times, in certain seasons.  This is how God operated in Old Testament days, BC, before Christ.

Now there are two other very important Old Testament references, and this very well could wind up on an exam.  Genesis 6:3.  The Lord said, “My Spirit shall not always strive with men.”  Now this simply means, it is the work of the Holy Spirit that brings man back to God.  Make a note of Genesis 6:3.

And the other very important scripture that I’m sure you all know, Zechariah 4:6, Zechariah 4:6.  “For it not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.”  In other words, it is the energy of the person of the Holy Spirit that accomplishes God’s purposes.

All-powerful

Now in the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit, of course, was present at the beginning, and He is present now.  And He’s present in three ways.  I want you to write these three ways down.  He is, first of all, omniscient.  He is omniscient.  Everybody say, omniscient.  And omniscient, somebody tell me what that means.  All-knowing, all-knowing.  Omniscient means all-knowing.

Second, He is omnipotent, omnipotent.  Somebody tell me what omnipotent means?  All-powerful.  So He is omniscient, all-knowing, He is omnipotent, all-powerful.

And then, finally, He is omnipresent.  What does that mean?  It means He’s everywhere at the same time.  He can be in you, He can be in me, He can be in somebody else.  He’s everywhere.

Jesus, when He was on the earth in His physical form, He was limited to time and space.  He could only be at one place at a time.  He couldn’t be in Nazareth and Jerusalem at the same time.  But the Holy Spirit can.  That’s His unlimited form.

So He was omnipotent.  He was omniscient, and He was omnipresent.  He was all-knowing, He was all-powerful, and He is able to be everywhere at the same time.

But simply because He is present does not necessarily mean He will manifest himself at all times.  And we see that throughout the Old Testament.

Let me give you some scriptures and some examples of how He operated in the Old Testament.  First of all, in Numbers 11:15, this is dealing with Moses and the seventy elders.  The scripture says, “Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke with Moses.  And God took of the Holy Spirit that was upon Moses and put the Holy Spirit on the seventy elders.

“When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they did not do it again.”  Now this is an example of how the Holy Spirit moved in Old Testament days.

Another example also in the book of Numbers, chapter 24, Numbers 24:2, “When Balaam looked out and saw Israel encamped, tribe by tribe, the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit came upon him.”  The Holy Spirit was not on him until that moment.  Then the Holy Spirit came on him.

Another example is in the book of Judges, Judges, chapter 6 and verse 34, Judges 6:34, “The spirit of the Lord,” that is, the Holy Spirit, “came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet, summoning the Abiezerites to follow him.”

Another example, in Judges, chapter 14, verse 6, “The Spirit of the Lord came upon Samson, and came upon him in power, so that he tore the lion apart with his bare hands, as he might have torn a young goat.”

About Christians

And one of the reasons he is so smart is, he knew the whole blueprint plan for the human race.  He knows how we’re made.  That’s one reason why he is so clever about attacking us, because he knows the human tendencies of mankind.

He was in heaven from the beginning.  He was an archangel.  He knew and knows God’s master plan.  He even knows that his end is coming.  And that’s one reason why he’s working so hard to take us out.  Did you have a question?  Stand up and speak up real loud.  (Question)

Can you hear her?  She’s talking about Christians reading Harry Potter books and things like that.  I’m not here to jump on Harry Potter, okay?  That’s not my job.  I just think that we ought to be as wise as serpents and harmless as doves.

God gives us good sense, and I think we ought to use it.  I don’t think we ought to put anything in our minds or in our spirits that would cause us to open a door.  And that’s what she’s talking about.

But, you know, when we’re young and we don’t quite have the maturity level that we will have when we’re in our thirties or forties or fifties or sixties or whatever, we are open targets.  And you college students are open targets to that.  And I think you need to be very, very careful what you allow to come into your system.

And the easiest way to avoid what she’s talking about with some Christians who said, “Well, those things, they’re not going to affect me, you know.  I can go see any movie that I want to about demon possession.  I can read any book.”  And, you know it’s a pride thing, “It’s not going to affect me.”

I think what you ought to do is let it pass the Jesus test.  Now what do you mean by that?  Well, the Jesus test is what used to happen to me when I was a boy.  I’d get into trouble.  Any of you guys ever get in trouble with your mom?  The rest of you are lying.

In the authority of Jesus’ name by Richard Roberts

In the authority of Jesus’ name, I rebuke that itching and command it to leave your eye now.  And I believe you’ll find it changed.

Now, young lady, would you stand up?  What were you going to say?  Okay.  Does the Bible say so?  No, the Bible doesn’t say.  The Bible says there are nine gifts, and that the Holy Spirit manifests them through whomever He chooses, whenever He chooses because every born-again believer has the Holy Spirit.  Don’t you?

People say, “When did you get the Holy Ghost?”  I got Him when I got saved.  It’s when you got Him.  How else could you get saved unless the Holy Spirit comes in, as the scripture says, and bears witness with your spirit that you’re born again?

So every believer has the Holy Spirit already in them.  Now He is not going to manifest himself through a non-Christian.  He’s not going to do that.  So when you see these so-called psychics and these, you know, the Cleos and those people of the world, when you see them not giving any glory to God, you know they’re operating by a spirit of divination.  And you’ll find that in Acts, I believe it’s chapter 16.  And the apostle Paul cast that out.

Satan has a counterfeit.  When you see these little—usually it’s a little house on a street that says “Psychic,” or “Palm reader.”  By the way, let me give you a very stern word of warning.  Don’t ever, ever in your life go to one, ever.  Don’t ever have someone take Tarot cards for you.  Don’t ever have someone hold your hand and try to figure out what’s going to happen because, first of all, it’s very real.  And there may be some truth in what is said.

But let me tell you the other side of the coin.  The Bible says that King Saul lost his throne because he sought the advice of a sorcerer.  Don’t mess with that.  You may very well get some truth, because satan also knows the Word of God.  Okay?  But just don’t ever do it.

The gift of tongues and the gift of interpretation of tongues is sovereign by Richard Roberts

Now you might be interested to know that the gift of prophecy has come through me.  The gift of the discerning of spirits, the gift of faith, the gifts of healing, the word of knowledge, the word of wisdom.  But did you know, never once in my life has the gift of tongues or the gift of interpretation of tongues manifested through me.

However, I pray in tongues every day of my life, and I can do it at will any time, night or day.  So it’s different.  Don’t confuse the two.  Okay, somebody else, what did you get today that you didn’t know before?  Stand up.  Yes.  Got it.  Yep.  Yep.  You’ll never forget that, will you?  That’s good, isn’t it?

You know who I got that from, don’t you?  Anybody want to take a guess?  That’s right.  Somebody else, what did you get today?  We’ve got a couple more minutes.  What did you learn that you didn’t know before?  Yes, real loud.  The gift of tongues and the gift of interpretation of tongues is sovereign.

In other words, it happens only when He chooses.  We can’t walk up and say, “Well, I believe I’ll just operate in a gift,” you know.  We can’t do that.  Can’t do that.  That would be like me walking in, saying, “Well, I just believe that I’m going to decide right now the word of knowledge is going to work through me.”  I’ll be embarrassed quickly.

Now there’s sometimes it operates when I wish it didn’t operate.  You know, I’ve been in some situations where I didn’t want to give that word.  But I have to be obedient.

Would you stand up?  Which one of you over here has, your right eye has been itching real bad?  Somebody in here has had a right eye that’s itching real bad.  I thought it was on this side of the room.  Is it you?  Would you just stand up?  I may get the right one, the left one.  Just several of you lay hands on him.
