Use Your Authority Over Fear

Jesus said, “My peace I give to you; not as the world gives” (John 14:27 NKJV).  Peace does not mean escaping your trouble by relaxing in a soothing bubble bath, because once you’re finished, the trouble is still there waiting for you.

One meaning of the word peace is “destroying the stronghold that creates chaos.”  The way to live in the peace that Jesus gives is to destroy the stronghold that creates chaos in your life, and the stronghold of chaos is a spirit of fear.  If you’re living in fear, you’ll never be able to live in peace.  God said in II Timothy 1:7 that He has not given you a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, of love, and a sound mind.  So if a spirit of fear is trying to attach itself to you, it’s not from God, and you don’t want it!  But you can’t wish it away, think it away, hope it away, or read it away.  It’s a spirit.  And there is only one way to get rid of a spirit—take authority over it with the Word of God!

If someone came to your front door with a bomb, and you had the choice of opening the door and accepting it or slamming the door and refusing it, what would you do?  Of course you would refuse it!  The spirit of fear is just like that.  Since God didn’t give it to you, you have a Bible right to say, “I refuse fear!  I’m not going to have it!”

You can take authority over fear by saying, “God, I can’t handle this in my humanness or in my natural ability, but I can handle it in the Spirit.  And, satan, I call you what you are.  You’re a liar, a thief, and the author of confusion and chaos.  I will have no part of you, in the Name of Jesus!”

Bless God and Be Blessed!

Recently I had one of those days when, from the moment I got up in the morning, everything I did went wrong.  You name it; pick anything.  As soon as I crawled out of bed and opened my eyes, everything that could go wrong did…and much, much more!

Needless to say, when I finally got home that evening I was exhausted and frustrated.  And I had a tip-of-the-iceberg moment where I was going to blow it.

Suddenly I began to chuckle because I realized that at that moment I had a golden opportunity to really get ticked off or let God be God.  Ironically, I had just been teaching about blessing the Lord with your mouth.  But it’s easy to bless the Lord when everything is going right.  It’s not as easy when everything is going wrong.

Well, I began to just bless the Lord.  I believe with all of my heart that the Lord had spent the day in heaven just watching me, saying, “Is she going to bless Me so I can bless her, or is she going to lose it? Is she going to give this situation over to Me, or is she going to give in to the devil’s plan?”

As I began to bless the Lord, I believe He put a chain of events in motion and said, “Because she chose to bless me, I’ll reward her.”  Not long after, the telephone rang, and it was a friend of mine who seems to always shows up at my door when I’m in a crisis mode.  She said she was coming over to bring me a new outfit!  Because I blessed God, He blessed me!

Psalm 22:3 says that God inhabits the praises of His people.  If you’re having a bad day…everything is going wrong…bless the Lord.  I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that when we begin to bless God, He begins to bless us!

Time with God

SPKM STEVE VICKERS Correct.  I went down to Florida just to get away for a few days…. I rented a condo down there and stayed for a few days just to fast and pray and spend some time with God.  And while I was down there the Lord impressed me, while I was just seeking the face of God, concerning his direction in the days ahead in our church, in our ministry.  God impressed me that Denise was to come down also.  Now we have four children and so she’s kept pretty busy, plus with the church and everything.  So I called her and said, “Denise, I really believe that you are to come down.  Just take a few days to come down and be with me.”  I had already been down for three days, so she came down and really, it was during that time that God spoke to her to make an appointment at the Charismatic Bible Ministries Conference in June of 1986.

SPRR RICHARD ROBERTS What do you mean an appointment?

SPKM STEVE VICKERS Well, maybe she needs to share that with you. But, you know, God is real.  And we can make an appointment with God and say, “God, at such and such a time I’m going to meet with you and you’re going to do so-and-so in my life.

SPRR RICHARD ROBERTS All right, Denise, were you saying, “I am making an appointment with God that at that Charismatic Bible Ministries Oral Roberts Conference last year I’m going to release my faith for miracles”?

SPKM DENISE VICKERS Yes, yes.  I knew I could not come back from that meeting now healed. I knew I had to get healed.  (APPLAUSE) I would do this.  I would hold my hand over my heart and I would say, “Steve, I’m sick, I’m sick.  My heart is sick.”  I was disappointed in God.  It was affecting my spiritually and, see, I knew it wasn’t God but I couldn’t understand how can you be healed and still be in pain, but I knew I heard God say that. And so for 2| years I suffered in this thing.  And driving back from Florida in the car I was listening to a healing tape and I turned off the tape player and I said to the devil, “It is you, Satan…..” because, see, for 2| years I tried to deal with it with vitamins, nutrition, I quit eating for 6 weeks and tried to see if it was food. I did everything in the natural that I knew to do.

SPRR RICHARD ROBERTS And you’d done everything your doctors told you to do.

SPKM DENISE VICKERS I read everything the doctors told me, I took every medication, and they had to put me on stronger medication. I signed release forms for damage to my liver and to my eyes, going blind for this medication that I was on to keep me walking because they were predicting the wheelchair, Richard.  I was in severe pain.  And in the car I turned that tape player off and I settled it once and for all.  It is not vitamins that is my answer, it is not nutrition, it is the devil that’s doing this to me.  The devil was harrassing my body and I had to settle it.  I would waver in and out of it.  I would go in the natural and try to deal with it in the natural and the next minute I’d say, “It’s the spiritual.”  And I did everything in the spiritual I knew to do.

SPKM STEVE VICKERS I want to say this, Richard, and it’s so important because we were in the middle of this and I saw what was going on.  I was in it but also like an observer, and I saw this.  Whenever you give the enemy a little ground, that’s not the end.  When you allow him to compromise what you know to be the truth, he is not going to stop until he has destroyed all of the foundation of your faith.

SPRR RICHARD ROBERTS It’s like a song I heard a man write.  He said, “Don’t let the devil ride cause if you let him ride, he’ll want to drive.”

SPKM DENISE VICKERS That’s right, that’s right.  And let me tell you something.  In the car I settled it.  I said, “It is you, devil.”  I settled it.  Then I said, “Okay, God, I’m making an appointment right now.”  Now I was driving home to Montgomery and I said, “God, I want to make an appointment with you,” and I knew if you make an appointment with God according to the Word, if you cry out to God, he’s going to hear you. (APPLAUSE)  So I put God on the line and I said, “God, in five weeks I’m going to Tulsa.” And I knew… if you’re going to get healed, you ought to be able to get healed in Tulsa, you know.  So I knew, I knew it was going to happen.  I settled it.

The Greatest Scripture

SPKM CLARENCE BOYD I was probably the first student who was from that denomination at Oral Roberts University.  Today you probably have anywhere from 5, 6, or 7.  Oral Roberts continues to draw from our denomination young people who are interested in the charismatic movement.

SPOR ORAL ROBERTS Of course, the important thing here is that no matter where you are from as a faculty member, an administrator, or as a student, you are in a charismatic university built on the Holy Spirit and the authority of God and we’re trying to break down all these walls of separation  IL01 and be human beings, be people of God.  I remember Ben Gurion said something to me, Richard, when I was with him just before he died.  He was the first prime minister of Israel and I had a group of ORU students visiting him in Israel and I asked him what he thought was the greatest scripture in the Bible and right there where the Bible was written in the Holy Land the prime minister of Israel, Ben Gurion, said to me, “The greatest scripture in the Bible is the scripture in Genesis where it says, ‘And God made him man.'”  He didn’t make him Jew, he didn’t make him Gentile, he didn’t make him black, white, red, yellow.  He just made him man.  (APPLAUSE) Man, man, a human being. And if there is one thing standing out here, Dean Boyd, it is that human beings are at Oral Roberts University and we sit down and we get together and we love each other and we get our education.  We keep our burning as we get our education.  Now say that a different way, Richard.

SPRR RICHARD ROBERTS Well, I always tell people that ORU is the university where I got my learning but kept my burning.

SPOR ORAL ROBERTS Now that’s the way to say it.

SPRR RICHARD ROBERTS I’m a graduate of ORU.  And while the ORU Singers are getting ready to sing right now, I want to say to you as a parent or as a grandparent, or as an aunt or uncle of someone who is interested in ORU, or as a young person who would like to attend ORU, there are still a few spaces available for the fall semester coming up in August.  We begin our fall semester around the last week or so of August.  All you have to do is pick up your telephone and call the Abundant Life Prayer Group at area 918-495-7777.  Now when you do, they will ask you some questions that will facilitate us to get information to you such as your social security number, your year of high school graduation, whether you just graduated from high school or whether you are transferring from another school, your grade point average, your SAT or ACT scores, whichever are the ones you need for ORU.  We can help you.  And there are scholarships available in some categories so don’t let the lack of funds turn you off on trying.  Call us and let us know.  There are still a few spaces available for the fall semester. Right now the Oral Roberts University Singers are going to minister one of the greatest gospel songs ever written, “How Great Thou Art.” (APPLAUSE)

SPKM ORU SINGERS  SONG How_great_thou_art  (APPLAUSE)   AD02 PROMO for RR’s Album, “I Am Determined” for a Seed-Faith gift of $10.  (APPLAUSE)

SPRR RICHARD ROBERTS You can have your own copy of my brand new album, “I Am Determined,” or the cassette, “I Am Determined.” All you need to do is sow a seed of $10 or more into this healing ministry for everything we’re doing for God.  There you can see it on your screen now.  Ask for the album or the cassette.  Just say, “Richard, please send me the album, or the cassette.”  Write me:  Richard Roberts, Tulsa, Oklahoma, or in Canada:  Richard Roberts, Toronto, Ontario.  Or you can sow a seed-faith gift on your credit card by calling the Abundant Life Prayer Group at 918-495-7777.  There is the number on your screen right now, and I will rush the tape or record album immediately to you.  Just let me know which one you want and we’ll put it into the mail. We were talking about the upcoming fourth annual Oral Roberts Ministers’ Conference in association with the Charismatic Bible Ministries Fellowship this next June and I thought it would be most appropriate for you to hear one of the most unusual testimonies that has come out of this past year’s conference.  My special guests today are Steve and Denise Vickers from Montgomery, Alabama, pastors of Christian Life Church. (APPLAUSE)

Richard Roberts LIVE with Guest Rhonda Cullison Part Seven

CPS:  And the first step you can make is to pick up that telephone and call that number because that is saying, I make a decision.  I make a decision to pick this telephone up, dial that number, and I am going to get help.  I have got to get help.  And that’s the first step in realizing you cannot do it by yourself. You’ve got to have help.

LR:  You know, we all need help.  I needed prayer when I couldn’t pray for myself.

CPS:  Right…to that stage.

LR:  There are times when you need it.  That’s right, when you get so down you don’t know what to do with yourself.  You’re so depressed or you’re so hurt.  And maybe you’ve turned to a family member and maybe they just didn’t know how to help you.  These people are trained in how to help you get help.  We are going to help you any way we can. trained to help you get well, in Jesus’ name.  (Applause)  The band has a song they want to play for you and it’s called “Jehovah Jireh.” Jehovah Jireh means, God our provider.  You know, if you need God to provide help for you in drugs, if you need God to help provide a way for you to get away from alcohol, if you need God to provide a way for you to have a better self-image, if you need God to provide finances for you, healing in your body, healing in your emotions, healing in your family or your marriage, God said He is your provider.  And God wants to provide for you.  God has the resources, if we will call on Him and expect Him–not man, not our husband, not our father, not our sisters or brothers–but expect God to be our provider, God will work a miracle for us.  God will be our provider.  Right now the band has a song for you called “Jehovah Jireh,” God our provider  Let’s give them a welcome.  (Applause)

ORU BAND:  “Jehovah Jireh”  (Applause)

Believed It And I Received it

Believed It And I Received it by Richard Roberts

Praise the Lord. Cheryl, do you have a testimony? A great one. This lady called for prayer because she had a tumor on her body. And the prayer partner prayed with her. The tumor was gone. And she went to the doctor and the doctor verified that the tumor is gone. She called back to say, “Hey, it’s gone and the doctor said it’s gone.” (Applause) That’s faith talk. How do you feel about that, Lindsay?

You know, it’s usually the very time you get something wrong with you, suddenly your fear begins to talk. The devil attacks your mind and the first thing that comes into your mind is, you’re never going to get well. This is the worst thing that could happen to you. You’re going to be sick. You’re this, you’re that. The first thing that we’ve got to learn to do when something comes against us is stop looking at the circumstance and let our faith talk.

I had that when the doctors told me I’d never walk again. I was laying in the hospital. My left leg was completely crushed. There wasn’t anything left in my left leg. And yet I kept thinking to myself, OK, do I accept this? I didn’t have any teaching either. No one taught me that I could believe. No one taught me that I could confess. But I said to my father, I first of all found out what God was like and I found out He wanted me whole. And then when I found out He wanted me whole, I said, “OK, I’m not going to look at the leg.

I’m not going to look at the circumstances. I look to God.” And even my Sunday school teachers and the nurses and the doctors and everybody would come in and say, “Honey, you’ve got to accept that you’re going to be a cripple the rest of your life.” And I would say, “No, because my God is like my father. The Word says my God is like my earthly father.” And I watched my earthly father and he wanted me whole. And so I thought, all right, if he wants me whole, then God wants me whole. I was a little girl but I believed it and I received it.

Prayer And Medicine Together

Right. You  minister that way all the time. In fact, I’m leaving and going to a minister right after this program on a crusade and I’ll be praying for the sick. And people say, “Well, man, there you are praying for the sick and you took your son to the City of Faith.” I said, “That’s right.” I said, “We were at a situation that I at that particular time for several reasons, I was not ready faith wise to fight a faith battle.

Besides that, didn’t have time to fight a faith battle. I had to have some immediate results. And I used”, there they are, the hands right behind us, “prayer and medicine together.” And we got perfect … Solution out of it. We got a result that was perfect. Actually where they went through the skull is not supposed, the bone is not supposed to grow again. It is.

The bone has grown again. It’s growing again. It’s covering up and there’s becoming bone in there where they had to drill through the skull and that’s not supposed to happen. That’s supernatural, see. That’s what God, the doctors couldn’t do anything about that. Now I say this all the time, Richard, I tell people, if you have a disease that medical science can help you control and keep you alive, use that until you learn how to believe God and get complete supernatural healing.

In other words, you’re saying, use all that God has for you. Use anything that you can get your hands on that God has given. Everything that’s good, you said, comes from God. That’s what the Bible said. I didn’t say it. God said it. That’s right. You see, it’s not your words, it’s the Word of God. That’s right. But people say, well I believe in medicine but I don’t believe in prayer. Or I believe in prayer, I don’t believe in medicine.

I think they are both wrong, Ken. That’s right because they’ve got to take the whole package. The whole loaf. Right. Who gave all of the doctors, the researchers, everybody that’s found all of the drugs, all of the cures, the operations, who gave them the knowledge to do that in the first place? Where did it come from? Did the devil do it? According to the Bible he didn’t because the Bible says that the devil is going around as a roaring lion, you know …

Finding Stability In an Unstable World

Richard Roberts want to share something to you. When we look around the world today, there seems to be instability everywhere…so much, in fact, that it’s easy to think you and I may be dealing with situations that no one has ever faced before. But according to the Bible and the story of Joseph in Genesis 37-50, that’s just not true. If anyone ever had a reason to become unstable and even bitter, it was Joseph. Just look at what happened in his life.

Dysfunctional families are nothing new

Joseph’s father, Jacob, had two wives, and he was involved with several other women at the same time. He had children by all of those women which caused jealousy and competition in the home. Joseph’s mother died when he was young. Jacob favored Joseph over his brothers and gave him a special, multi-colored coat, causing great jealousy among his brothers. In Genesis 37, we read where Joseph began having unusual dreams, including a dream where his brothers all bowed down to him. But rather than loving their brother and listening to his dreams, Joseph’s brothers grew even more jealous and bitter. They rejected his dreams, and hated him so much that they threw him into a pit, sold him into slavery in Egypt, and told their father he’d been killed.

And if slavery wasn’t bad enough…

Joseph was bought by Potiphar, a powerful Egyptian who put him in charge of his household. But In the midst of what had begun to be good fortune for Joseph, Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him. When he refused her advances, she accused him of trying to rape her, and Joseph was thrown back in prison, though he had done nothing wrong. How did Joseph keep his sanity? How did he keep from becoming angry at God and filled with hate in the crazy, unstable world he was living in?

Joseph refused to get bitter

One reason I believe Joseph had emotional stability was because no matter what happened to him, he kept his eyes on the Lord and refused to get bitter. When his brothers sold him into slavery, he didn’t get bitter. When he was thrown into jail for a crime he didn’t commit, he didn’t get bitter. The Lord said in Romans 12:19, Vengeance is mine; I will repay. Why? Because He’s the only One who can absorb the punishment that vengeance brings. Joseph understood that, and he didn’t waste his time trying to get even with his enemies. No matter what people did to Joseph, he just kept moving forward with God. I believe he knew God had a purpose for his life, and he trusted Him to turn what the devil meant for his harm into his eventual good.

He used his gifts to bless others

Joseph had a gift from God to interpret dreams. One day Joseph interpreted a dream for Pharaoh and Pharaoh was so impressed that he made Joseph the number-two man in his government. When Joseph’s family ran out of food during a famine, they wound up at his doorstep on their knees, asking for food. And Joseph’s dreams came to pass! Joseph’s brothers were terrified when he revealed who he was. But Joseph held no bitterness in his heart. He said, “You planned evil against me but God used those same plans for my good, as you see all around you right now—life for many people…You have nothing to fear; I’ll take care of you and your children.” (Genesis 50:19-21 MSG).

We can have what Joseph had

Joseph not only survived the instability surrounding him, he flourished. And I believe when you and I stay focused on God, as Joseph did, instead of the circumstances in our lives, we can have what Joseph had…and we can find stability in the unstable world around us.

Our Moment for Change

For Such a Time as This…

Abraham seemed like an unlikely choice to father a nation. But when God wanted to bring forth faith, He brought forth Abraham. Abraham was at first unfamiliar with the ways of God…and apparently too old to bring forth anything—especially a child—when God decided His time to birth a nation had arrived. And so God made a change in Abraham’s life that would impact generations to come (Genesis 17).

Esther was a girl living in a remote area where no one seemed to notice her. That would soon change, because she was born for “such a time as this” (Esther 4:14), and through her, God would release an anointing to save the nation she so passionately loved.

When God wanted to change the heart of a wicked king, he brought forth Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (Daniel 3). These men were thrown into a fiery furnace for their belief in God, but God brought them out unharmed so that a nation could be freed from the terrorist king of their day.

When God wanted to change the face of healing evangelism, one of the men He called was a man named Oral Roberts. In spite of Satan trying to make a mockery out of God’s plan by afflicting him with tuberculosis at age 17, God’s Word on healing came forth anyway, and the world has been forever changed as a result. Now I believe it’s time for change for Richard Roberts.

I was born under unusual circumstances. When I was due to arrive in this world, my father, international healing evangelist Oral Roberts, was conducting a healing crusade in Dallas. God had blessed that crusade mightily and so many people were getting saved and healed that the sponsoring pastors prevailed upon my dad to extend the meetings.

My dad’s heart was touched with the needs of the people, and he called my mother and asked her to agree with him that my birth would be delayed until his crusade was finished. Imagine the faith of my mother who agreed with my father! My parents set my new due date as November 12, the day for my dad to return from his crusades. As God would have it, late on November 12, 1948, I was born.

As a child, I had the privilege of being at my dad’s crusades when he took his tent cathedral around the world. By age 19, I had joined his ministry full time. And for many years, I’ve had the opportunity of going around the world to places such as Russia, Guatemala, Jamaica, Haiti, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, Australia, the Ivory Coast, Niger, and El Salvador…and many others…preaching the Gospel in my own healing rallies. But now God is saying to me, “Change, change, change.”

God is calling me to become even more intense with this ministry in light of all that’s happening in the world today. I believe with everything in me that you are on God’s heart today more than ever and we must partner together as the body of Christ. When we do, I believe miracles, signs, and wonders will follow, and together we can take the message of hope and healing to a crying, dying world.

Just as Abraham carried an anointing, there was also a specific time for it to be increased and released. Esther carried an anointing, but it was only at a certain level until the time came for her to be released into her kingdom anointing and kingdom authority. Oral Roberts was called by God from birth, yet the time that the anointing was released came years later.

Each particular part of our anointing has a specific timetable—our “for such a time as this” moment. It is the season of change for the old anointing; the old mantle, to come off, making room for the new anointing to come forth. Well, just as God has spoken to me over and over that change was coming forth, now I believe that change is here.

He is the healer
